I read  5 nutrition  facts  article regarding milk & healthy kids . This article was  very intersecting . I didn’t know that they Pediatrins are  asking  parents  to keep their kids on whole milk until the age of 1 and than switch them to  2% or 1 % milk to lower the risks of obesity and  ealry cholosertol .  Even though milk is an excellent source for calicum . Parents need to moderate the amount of milk young children are taking in because of the saturated fat that is milk .

I really enjoyed reading this article , it was very helpful to know this information about milk consriding i  have a little guy at home . I just find it werid that his doctor never mentioned anything .

Generic Drugs vs.
Brand Name Drugs

These days the economy is tuff. With every
penny counting and health insurance sky high. Getting prescription medication
is hard. A lot of us think hey if we can get the medication cheaper why not do it.
Others think hey if its generic why even
buy it. The chemicals aren’t even the same!

Well generic drugs are copies of
the brand name drug. It has the same dosage, strength, and intended use,
effects and side effects. The FDA requires that generic drugs be as safe and effective
as brand name drugs. ‘’ Actually 50% of generic drugs are made from the same
brand name drug.” The only reason a generic drug is cheaper because there is
less marketing than the brand name drug.   When a brand name drug is made. There is
thousands or million dollars spent in marketing, researching, developing and advertising.
So after two or three years, when the
generic comes out there is no reason to why spend millions of dollars.  If the brand name work well. They why not make
a generic and spend a third of a million, and get millions of dollars in
profit.

A lot of people say that they don’t like
generic drugs because they make them wrong or there might even be a recall. Well
in 2008 Johnson and Johnson had the biggest recall in Tylenol, Motrin, and Benadryl
and St. Joseph’s aspirin. The recall was issued because of a moldy smell that
has made people sick.   Federal regulators came and spoke that may
people had already complained about the moldy smell, but Johnson and Johnson
weren’t quick enough to respond. Until the FDA stepped in. The recall included
batches of regular and extra strength Tylenol. Children’s Tylenol. Children’s Motrin
and St. Joseph’s aspirin   .  Tylenol
is the biggest (acetaminophen) pain reliever, and to think that there was a recall.

It makes you think!   As a person, in the medical field. My
patients always tell me “ I want  the
brand name drug not the  generic ! Even,
if it’s a hundred dollars more. “   I
will be the first to say “We should always research what we put into our bodies.”   There will always be pros and cons with generic
and brand name drugs.  I’m sure people will
have different side effects with a brand name and generic name drug. But don’t you feel safe knowing that 5o % of generic drugs are made from the brand drug . See people generic drugs are not bad at all.

  • Generic drugs are copies of brand-name drugs that have exactly the same  dosage, intended use, effects, side effects, route of administration, risks,  safety, and strength as the original drug. In other words, their pharmacological  effects are exactly the same as those of their brand-name counterparts.
  • The FDA  (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) requires that generic drugs be as safe and  effective as brand-name drugs.
  • Actually, generic drugs are only cheaper because the  manufacturers have not had the expenses of developing and marketing a new drug.  When a company brings a new drug onto the market, the firm has already spent  substantial money on research, development, marketing and promotion of the drug.
  •  In fact, the FDA  estimates that 50% of generic drug production is by brand-name companies.

  • Sometimes, generic versions of a drug have different colors, flavors, or  combinations of inactive ingredients than the original medications. Trademark  laws in the United States do not allow the generic drugs to look exactly like the  brand-name preparation, but the active ingredients must be the same in both  preparations, ensuring that both have the same medicinal effects

I think I’m going to chose generic vs. brand name drug . I   work in the medical field . I see it all the time my patients come in  and they always ask ’ which is better , I read this , or i heard this “  So i want to set it straight . I want to prove is it better to pay “more” or ” less”  . It’s quality or quantity  bettr ! My sources will be the web ,  I know a couple  of Drug Reps . I  have my docotor  I work for and my Nusre Practioner . I could  get information about medication at pharmacies . I could use  books that are about generic vs brand . There is a lot of information out there about medication . We should know what we are paying for and  also what we are putting in our bodies .

                                        by Ethan A. Huff
In 2005 the drug company pfizer  was in denal . Celbrex and bextra was pulled off the market . Due to the sideaffects that it was giving people .  Pfizer denies the fact that they lied about Bextra and celbrex and the fact that they were filling the drug with harmful causes .  Today celbrex is still around some people still want to take the inflammtory medication . It’s crazy that even today they haven’t reached a deal in the court about this medication .
I did like this article . It was full of information and people should know what they are putting in their body and they should think twice !

Diagnostic Medical Thermography by  Carolyn Dean

This article is about today’s techonolgy and the use of thermography  for mammograms .  American Medical Women’s Association are getting into  arguments with a woman
radiologist.  Because today many woman believe that if you do get a mammogram you are putting yourself at risk because of the radiation. Others believe that you  should do a routine mammogram every year staring at the earliest age of 35.

Carolyn went into research mode when she spoke with her friend  Dr. Galina Migalko . Dr. Migalko works in California where out there they make you do a mammogram and than they do a follow up ultrasound to  see if they find anything.  It puts  you at lower risk because of the radation .

The article also , speaks about Thermography can detect early signs of arthritis, neck and back pain, dental infections . Also the  ealry signs of a cst .

I really liked this article . It was well written, and it also helps women see that they should  get a mammogram . They should  take into aspect that radation will harm us , but also so will cancer if it keeps spreading without treatment .

carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), digestive disorders, bursitis, ligament or muscle
tears, nerve problems, as well as screen for strokes and detect cancer in the
very early stages.

Ethnography

I decided to write about my experience at the hospital .  I spent the day  at The Children’s Hospital in Boston . For the day I worked along with my cardiologist Dr. Gerald Marx. He let me observe his patients ,and the structure of care that he provides for his patients . Dr. Marx’s day constanted of  15 indivuals  from the ages of 7 months old to 25 years old . There  was a set of twins that were 2 years old and they both have endocarditis . Endocarditis is basically a disease of the heart valves and it occurs in the Endocardium which is a membrane which lines the inside of the heart’s valves. The disease is caused by an infection of bacteria usually and once infected surgery is usually needed.  The twins had surgery at the age of 8 months old . Dr. Marx explainxed how they went in scraped all the  bacteria  out of the heart valves . The surgery was a succes for both children unfortunatley the children come from a  poor  town in India . There isn’t the proper care for them  so the little girl’s heart became distressed and she started to turn purple from the  lack of oxygen . Due from a cold and untreated strip a the little girl had signs of  endocarditis again . So Dr. marx was contacted by a letter from her parents  crying for help for their children . So the hospital rasied money so that the child  could have proper care and be rused from India to Boston . Where Dr.Marx ran blood work, ct scans and encho of her heart . From there he decided to perform open heart surgery . Before surgery the patient was on intense antibiotics to help the bacteria and hope for it to not spread in the heart .

Her Open heart surgery took about a total of four hours . Dr. Marx and Dr. Pigatel went in and removed all the damaged heart tissue , and replaced her pulmonary valve with a manic valve . ( which will last 15 to 20 years ) It was amazing the way they performed  her surgery and the best was with the parents permission i was able to  see the video of her surgery . After two weeks of care . She was released from the hospital and the hospital had  arranged an apartment for the parents to stay for 6 months . So that she can have cardiac therapy and  the right follow up treatment .

The best part of the day with Dr. Marx  was interacting with all his patients because I know what it’s like to be in their shoes . It was nice for me to set an example that with good care , and a healthy life style “us people , can make it far in life with our heart problems. ”

This is what your heart looks like with endocarditis. ( Take a look )

House of Memory by Lisa Schamans

I really enjoyed this article ! The style that it was written was alittle over the place but you could still understand  it . I loved the way she summed up her story at the end . I think that’s what made me enjoy it . It actually bought a smile to my face .

“The coming medical revolution”by Lucy Mckeon

I didn’t like this article . I felt like it was too short . It had a main idea, but didn’t have enough information to back up the main idea .  It was an interesting  main idea but like I said before not enough to back it up .   The writing style was ok she could have gone into detail but she did have some ratios . Which was good . But I wouldn’t read this article again .
